  • September 27, 2023: Project completion ceremony held at Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center

  • June 6, 2022: Project construction start date. Check home page for regular updates on construction activity.

  • May 24 and May 25, 2022: Open House held via Zoom. See Project Documents for copy of presentation.

  • May 12, 2022: The New York Public Service Commission approved the RTS Phase II Environmental Management and Construction Plan (Phase II EM&CP), allowing construction to start on the project. Construction is scheduled to begin in early June.

  • March 3, 2022: Phase I work associated with vegetation removal at the Sugarloaf Substation in Chester is complete.

  • February 26, 2022: Vegetation work will begin at the Sugarloaf Substation in Chester on February 28, 2022.

  • February 8, 2022: New York Transco announced that work associated with the RTS Phase I Environmental Management and Construction Plan (Phase I EM&CP) would start on or around February 28, 2022. Information on the Phase I EM&CP can be found here.

  • January 20, 2022: The New York Public Service Commission approved the RTS Phase I Environmental Management and Construction Plan (Phase I EM&CP). This approval will allow for vegetation removal associated with the rebuilding of the 115kV Sugarloaf Substation in Chester. More information on work associated with the Phase I EM&CP can be found here.

  • January 14, 2022: New York Transco submitted its second phase of construction plans for the RTS. The Phase II Environmental Management and Construction Plan was submitted to the New York State Public Service Commission under Case No. 20-T-0549.

  • October 19, 2021: New York Transco submitted its first phase of construction plans for the RTS. The Phase I Environmental Management and Construction Plan (Phase 1 EM&CP) was submitted to the New York State Public Service Commission under Case No. 20-T-0549.

  • September 9, 2021: The New York State Public Service Commission granted a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need for the project.

  • July 15, 2021: Survey crews will be conducting shovel test pit activities within the project limits through the end of July.

  • June 23, 2021: New York Transco and other interested parties submitted a Joint Proposal to the Public Service Commission including proposed and agreed upon Certificate Conditions and safeguards that avoid or minimize adverse environmental impacts.

  • April 13, 2021: The State of New York Public Service Commission issued a Notice of Public Information Forums and a Notice of Public Statement Hearings and Soliciting Comments pertaining to the RTS. A copy of the presentation from the Forums can be found here.

  • March 17, 2021: Geotechnical investigations along most portions of the project have been completed. Limited environmental surveys will continue in late March and early April.

  • March 1, 2021: The Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council filed a letter in support of the Project.

  • February 26, 2021: New York State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt filed a letter in support of the project.

  • February 25, 2021: New York State Senator Mike Martucci, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1249, the Construction Contractors Association of the Hudson Valley, and the Orange County Partnership recently filed letters in support of the Project to the New York State Department of Public Service.

  • January 20, 2021: Geotechnical investigations will begin in February 2021 at proposed structure locations in the corridor. Additional information can be found here.

  • November 5, 2020: NY Transco filed an Article VII Application with the New York State Department of Public Service. The full application can be found here.

  • September 27, 2020: The Project announced project open houses. Information on the open houses can be found here.

  • July 28, 2020: NY Transco introduced the Rock Tavern to Sugarloaf Upgrade.
